We got an update on GUS this week! He went up North to a foster in West Chicago and she fell in love and she ADOPTED him! She says “He’s a happy boy! He’s a shy guy who definitely prefers me, and is a chicken. He loves all the dogs and loves to play. He’s a goofy boy!

Warning: some photos may be a little graphic HAA volunteers responded to a call of a dog in need of care today. This sweet boy had a lead wrapped around his leg and did not want to be touched. His leg was injured, and he was obviously in pain. Volunteers were able to get him to Old Hatchie Vet Clinic (thank you, Dr. Pulse!) to be looked at. His leg is now free of the cord, and he will be kept overnight so Dr. Pulse can re-evaluate in the morning once some swelling goes down. Right now we are hoping...

There’s a Vietnamese proverb that says, “When eating fruit, remember the one who planted the tree.” Our hearts are full of gratitude and we want to say Thank You. 2020 was a challenging year for everyone, but despite it all our supporters were so very generous with their donations that we were able to finish the shelter and buy a new van. HAA extends heartfelt sympathy to our volunteer Ken Hadley. Ken is steadfast in his work to see us move into the new shelter! Marie, and her partner and best friend, Ken Hadley, spent most of the last 20 years fostering and caring for the animals of Hardeman County. They sheltered as many as 15 at a time at their home, held fundraisers there on the farm, and participated in most, if not all, events for the shelter. HAA has launched a capital campaign in order to raise the remaining funds we need to get moved in before the end of 2019. Our goal was to raise $60,000, and in the past month, we have already brought in over $11,000 of that! However, we still need funds, supplies, and volunteers to get us moved in. Day 10 -19 has come and gone and so has the Morton crew. We can never thank these guys enough for their work.
